In a 2015 letter to school leaders, Tom Torlakson indicated that all English Learners (Els) need both integrated and designated English Language Development (ELD), which is aligned to our most current and best understandings of how to teach academic English. Participants will walk away with a solid understanding of both approaches along with innovative strategies to ensure that ELs and students struggling academically in court and community settings learn the language they need to progress.
