Valentín Escanuela, Executive Leadership Coach, Equity for the San Diego County Office of Education, leads schools and districts to dismantle systems, policies, and practices that continue to perpetuate equity gaps for students who have been historically marginalized. For nearly two decades, Valentín has led equity-focused change as a teacher, literacy specialist, and administrator. He spent 16 years working with the Juvenile Court and Community Schools serving the most underserved and under-resourced students in San Diego County. Valentin’s systemic approach in leading the implementation of culturally responsive teaching and learning, Restorative Practices, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and a Multi -Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) transformed spaces that valued, respected, and challenged all students to achieve at high levels. Valentín is a champion for students who brings deep expertise in creating environments and conditions that support the needs of teachers, staff, and our most vulnerable students. Valentin Escanuela holds a BA in Sociology and an MEd in Cross Cultural Education.
